Urinary incontinence treatment
Stress urinary incontinence is a common problem a lot of woman suffer with.
It is marked by uncontrolled leakage of urine due to a physical stress.
Stress urinary incontinence occurs when the pressure in the bladder is higher than the pressure in the urethra. This happens when the support tissues and surrounding muscles have weakened and cannot keep the urethra closed, causing urine to leak out.
Stress urinary incontinence can happen at any age but most commonly occurs after childbearing especially after vaginal deliveries. There are several different types of urinary incontinence, however, urinary stress incontinence is by far the most common type. Women with stress urinary incontinence notice leakage during:
- Coughing, laughing, sneezing
- Walking, running, aerobics
- Lifting, bending, exertion
Regardless of age, or when the leak occurs, proper diagnosis and treatment can ease the symptom
Unfortunately, many women who are effected by this, just put up with it.
But... there is good news!!!
Once diagnosed and evaluated by a physician, certain recommendations may be made. One of these is to have a single incision sling, which is highly effective and very minimally invasive.
The mid urethral sling or also known as a single incision sling is highly effective in treating urinary stress incontinence. Most physicians and patients find that this method of treatment is not only the most effective but the quickest, simplest and least invasive of the options for treatment.. Recovery time is short and success rates are high. The procedure is done in an outpatient surgery center which means that you are home within a few of hours of leaving your home. return to normal daily activities usually occur within 24 hours of the surgery but further post operative instructions will be reviewed with you by the physician.
