Dialtion and Curettage (D&C)
Dilation and curettage, also known as D&C, is a procedure in which the top layer of the uterus lining is scraped away.
The procedure is mostly used for determining the cause of heavy bleeding, and is not considered a treatment for menorrhagia. Unlike an edometrial ablation procedure, which is indicated to stop or lighten heavy bleeding, D&C may lighten a woman's period for only a couple of cycles. It is sometimes repeated, yet over time the heavy periods return.
